We Believe

The Bible

The Bible is the Word of God for all people. Its purpose is to reveal the one true God to humanity and lead them into a personal relationship with Him. It was recorded by human writers under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because the Bible originated from God and was inspired by Him, it is truth that is free of errors and is completely relevant and applicable to people’s daily lives.

Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Psalm 119:11, 89, 105; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 22:29; John 5:39, 16:13-15, 17:17; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2, 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 3:16

The Trinity

God is everlasting and He is the Creator of all things. He exists in three eternal Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (the Trinity) are equal in nature, distinct in Person, and subordinate in duty. God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and is present everywhere at the same time. He is perfectly holy, just, loving, and good.

Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 61:1; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 1:35; John 5:21-23; 14:10, 16; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrews 1:8-10; James 2:19

The Father

God the Father is the Father of Creation. He is the Father of those who believe in Jesus Christ the Son. He abundantly provides for His children. Also, He instructs His children and lovingly corrects them. The Father is merciful, benevolent, compassionate, faithful, protective, and wise. He does not change and always keeps His promises.

Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45, 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6; John 1:23, 3:16, 4:24, 5:26, 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4; James 1:17

The Son

Jesus Christ, God the Son, is both completely God and completely human. Jesus is the only One who can bring people who are estranged from God back into a right relationship with Him. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory over sin and death and empower Christians for life.

Isaiah 7:14; 53; Matthew 1:18-23, 3:17, 8:29, 14:33, 16:16, 28:5-6; Luke 22:70, 24:46-47; John 1:1, 14, 10:30, 11:25-27, 17:1-5; Acts 1:9, 2:22-24, 7:55-56; Romans 1:3-4, 3:23-26, 8:1-3, 10:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Gal 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15, 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6, 3:16

The Holy Spirit

God the Holy Spirit is the great Comforter and Helper. His ministry extends to both unbelievers and Christians. He convicts unbelievers (the world) of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment with the goal of bringing them into a relationship with Christ. The Holy Spirit’s presence assures Christians of their secure relationship with Christ. He guides Christians into all truth and exalts Christ. He comforts Christians, strengthens them, and makes them more like Christ. It is essential that Christians be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit through the baptism in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables Christians to use spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues.

Genesis 1:2; Psalm 51:11, 139:7; Isaiah 61:1-3; Joel 2:28-32; Mark 1:10; Luke 1:35, 4:1, 11:13, 12:12; John 15:26, 16:7-14; Acts 1:8, 2:1-4, 13:2; Romans 8:9-11, 14-16, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2 Peter 1:2; Revelation 22:17

Eternity

God created humans to exist without end. They will exist either eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation given to those who believe in Jesus Christ. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16, 36; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25, 5:11-13; Revelation 20:15

Humanity

Human beings, male and female, are made in the image of God and are the supreme object of His creation and affection. Every human being is uniquely created, possesses dignity, and is worthy of respect and godly love. In particular, humans were created to have fellowship with God but became separated from Him through sinful disobedience. As a result, they are alienated from God, and, to make matters worse, cannot attain a right relationship with God through their own efforts. The only way for humans to be reconciled with God is to believe upon Jesus Christ. Believing upon Jesus Christ means to believe and proclaim that Jesus died on the cross for humanity’s sins, was buried, rose from the dead, and is alive forever.

Genesis 1:26-30, 2:7, 18-22; 3 Psalms 8:3-6, 32:1-5, 51:5; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Acts 17:26-31; Romans 1:19-32, 3:10-18, 23, 5:6, 6:6, 7:14-25; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31, 15:3-5, 19, 21-22; Ephesians 2; Colossians 1:21-22, 3:9-11

Marriage

Marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman that is condoned and blessed by God. According to the biblical model, marriage is a heterosexual, monogamous relationship that is based upon mutual love and faithfulness. Marriage is the bedrock upon which the family unit should be constructed. It is meant to last “till death do us part,” though mercy, forgiveness, and restoration are available in Christ for those who have experienced the tragedy and pain of divorce.

Genesis 2:18, 24; Proverbs 18:22; Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Corinthians 7:2-11; Ephesians 5:22-33; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Peter 3:7

Sanctity of Human Life

Human beings are created by God in His image. Therefore, every person, from conception to natural death, possesses inherent dignity and immeasurable worth — including preborn children, elderly individuals, and those with special needs. Christians, then, are called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 8:4-5, 22:10, 100:3, 127:3, 139:13-14a; Jeremiah 1:4-5; Isaiah 44:24; Isaiah 64:8; Galatians 1:15; Ephesians 1:3-4

Salvation

The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God, and it cannot be earned through human effort.

Isaiah 1:18; 53:5-6; 55:7 Matthew 1:21; 27:22-66, 28:1-6 Luke 1:68-69; 2:28-32 John 1:12; 3:16, 36; 5:24 Acts 2:21; 4:12; 16:30-31 Romans 1:16-18; 3:23-25; 5:8-10; 61 Corinthians 1:18 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 Galatians 2:20; 3:13 Ephesians 2:8-10 Philippians 2:12-13 Hebrews 9:24-28 Revelation 3:20

Healing

God is a Healer and He provides people with healing of physical sicknesses, injuries, and infirmities. God’s healing power is imparted to the needy through the prayer of faith, anointing of oil, and the laying on of hands in Jesus’ Name. Healing was made possible through Christ’s redemptive work on the cross and, thus, it is available to every Christian. It also is an integral part of sharing the Good News of salvation with unbelievers since it serves to demonstrate God’s heart of love for the world.

The Church

The Church is the people of God composed of all those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Bible, God’s Word, refers to the Church as Christ’s body, bride, and flock each of which uniquely illustrates Christ’s relationship to the Church and the Church’s relationship to Christ. The Church is both global and local in nature. Locally, the Church is a community of Christians unified through faith in Christ. This Christian community is committed to the teachings of God’s Word, prayer, ministry, fellowship, the sacraments, and it seeks to bring the Gospel to the world. The Church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ.

Matthew 16:18-19, 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-47, 5:11-14, 13:1-3, 14:23, 16:5, 20:28; 1 Corinthians 7:17, 9:13-14, 12; Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22, 3:10-12, 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18, 3:15; 1 Timothy 4:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3

Water Baptism

Water baptism is an outward act that demonstrates a Christian's identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. However, water baptism is not exclusively natural or physical in nature, but it is a means by which Christians can receive and experience God’s manifold grace. Water baptism is commanded in Scripture and should be observed by every Christian.

Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Peter 3:20-21

Holy Communion

The Holy Communion is a celebration of Jesus’ death and our remembrance of Him. It is a means by which Christians can have deep fellowship with the Lord and experience His grace in forgiveness, cleansing, and healing.

Matthew 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19-20; John 6:53-58, Acts 2:42, 46; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 1 Corinthians 11:17-33

Christ’s Return

The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again just as He promised as recorded in the Bible. The personal return of Jesus Christ will effect the bodily resurrection of all people, and will culminate in final judgment and in eternal reward and punishment.

Matthew 24:29-31, 25:31; Mark 14:62; John 14:3; Acts 1:11; Colossians 3:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 1:13; 2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 1:7, 3:11, 22:20

Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;

He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.

Mission

The mission of Harvest Church is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. Eph. 4:11 tells us that God has given grace gifts to His people for this purpose. When we walk in these gifts our community will be reached, our services empowered and the Kingdom of God advanced.

Vision

The vision of Harvest Church is for the people of God to grow in Christ. Believers will attain unity of faith and increase in their knowledge of Christ. Believers will be mature disciples of Jesus who speak the truth in love and serve others in love.
